Originally Tamworth was famously known for its castle and moat house but nowadays visitors come from all around to Tamworths huge snowdome. As well as the Snow dome Tamworth also offers other attractions such as the fantastic Drayton Manor park which attracts thousands of visitors from miles around.
Tamworthians also suggest that a night out is recommended if you are stopping over night as the night life is known to be pretty good.
Situated in the beautiful county of Staffordshire just 14 miles from Birmingham, tamworth has a current population of 74,531. The town takes it name from the river Tame, which flows through the town. Pooley fields heritage centre offers an educational insight to the sustainable energy generation and the mining history surrounding Tamworth, for all the nature lovers out there a recommended place to visit in Tamworth would be Polesworth abbey with its fantastic gardens and amazing abbey or Alvecote pools nature trail where you can walk along old miners path and down the canal side.
Surrounding attractions within the beautiful Staffordshire include an old claymills Victorian pumping station preserved in its still working condition. As well as many museums, Chillington hall dating back to the 18th century, Boscobel house and royal oak and emma bridgewaters working factory which make and produce hand made pottery. For all art and theatre lovers there is off course the fantastic Regeant theatre and Victoria Hall.
Tamworth has a vast history from starting off as one of the largest cities in england to being ruled by Saxons to being invaded by the Danish right through to the second world war in which Tamworth grew rapidly and became a centre for industrial growth due to its position by 2 rivers.
