About Dudley
Dudley, also known as the capital of the Black country due to it being one of the main citys involved in the industrial revolution has a current population of 186,513.
It is located just 10 miles west of Birmingham. Dudleys towns and districts comprises of Stourbridge, Halesowen, Kingswinford and Sedgley. Famous for its zoo and castle dudley boasts to have the largest and most varied collections of animals in the country.
The castle is thought to have been built by an Anglo saxon by the name of Dudo and is thought to have led to the present name of the town Dudley, the castle is believed to have dated back to AD 700 making it the oldest landmark within the area. Dudley is also well known for its black country living museum and art gallery as well as its pubs and bars. Dusley is also proud of it libraries and museums which over the course of last year recieved over 1.5 million visits from people all across england, you can also visit the famous Himley Hall which dates back to the early 18th century and was owned by the earl of dudley, this fine building is situated between Kingswinford and Wombourne and form just part of Dudleys historic past.
You can also go and visit one of dudleys four museums and learn about Dudleys part in the Industrial revolution, the glass making museums are said to be very interesting and give an insight to Dudleys industrial past of glass making at the Red house glass cone museum or the Broadfield glass museum aswell as Dudleys museum and art gallery or visit the museum on the move.
For all the out door lovers, you can always go and visit wrens nest parkland which is an important geological nature reserve within Dudley, some of the prehistoric fossils found at this nature reserve are on permanent display at Dudley museum. Fun for all the family.
